City of Springfield Pedestrian Wayfinding
PVPC is collaborating with the City of Springfield to improve health and well-being of residents and visitors alike via a pilot wayfinding initiative in the City's Downtown/Metro Center neighborhood. Funding for this initiative comes from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. WalkBoston, the Commonwealth's statewide pedestrian advocacy organization is providing technical assistance with both a pre installation walk audit and guidance/production of the temporary signs. The University of Massachusetts Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning Program (UMASS LARP) is also assisting with pre and post installation surveying. Representatives from DevelopSpringfield, the City's Transformational Development Initiative (TDI) and the Springfield Cultural District are working with staff from Health and Human Services and the office of Planning and Economic Development to oversee the initiative.
