Walk & Roll Festival
On May 11th from 11am to 3pm a diverse constellation of non-profit and public organizations, including the City of Springfield, MassBike, WalkBike Springfield, WalkBoston and the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, will be hosting an event at Barrows Park (on Walnut Street between Oak and Pine Streets) to engage local residents with one purpose in mind - building a Springfield that improves the wellbeing and vitality of the community by expanding opportunities to walk and bike, as well as reduce air pollution caused by personal vehicles.
Similar to last year’s Complete Streets Demonstration Celebration in front of the Lincoln School on Chestnut Street, complete streets best practices - the design practice in which roadways are built for walkers, bikes, wheelchairs, and strollers, as much as for vehicles - will be temporarily implemented on Walnut Street to give residents an opportunity to experience potentially permanent such improvements in the future and give their feedback. Visitors to the Celebration may also participate in walk audits, a bike rodeo, and sample local food from the restaurants and ice cream stand across from Barrows Park.
