Dirt Roads
PVPC supports rural and suburban communities in Hampden and Hampshire Counties to manage and improve unpaved road networks, reducing erosion, cutting maintenance costs, and increasing resilience through the following services:
- GIS Screening: Initial desktop analysis of the condition and vulnerability of local unpaved Roads
- Community Outreach & Engagement: Engaging residents, holding public meetings, explaining project benefits, meeting with Town staff, and documenting road criticality
- Field Assessments: Documenting road condition, drainage, erosion risk and prioritizing top road segments for investment
- Technical Assistance with selection of best management practices (BMPs) and structural stormwater controls that are easily maintained and climate-resilient
- Grant Writing: Identifying and securing state and federal funding sources
Culverts
PVPC helps municipalities and watershed partners upgrade culvert infrastructure for safety, habitat connectivity, and climate adaptation. We can assist communities with preparing and conducting Town-wide Culvert Assessments, Prioritization Plans, community engagement, outreach & education to identify top culverts for successful funding and implementation. We also can provide assistance with grant writing & administration, and ensuring that best practices for design and long-term planning requirements are met.
PVPC also offers NAACC Trainings & Certifications such as trainings in both the NACC Non-tidal Aquatic Connectivity Protocol and the Culvert Conditions protocol. We have one L2 Coordinator on staff, one L1 Coordination and three LOs certified in both the NACC Non-tidal Aquatic Connectivity Protocol and the Culvert Conditions protocols.
