The PVPC has been providing domestic violence prevention services to rural towns in Western Massachusetts since 1998 and currently facilitates both the Southern Hilltown Domestic Violence Task Force and the Ware River Valley Domestic Violence Task Force. These Task forces bring together community members including domestic violence survivors, police, schools, health care providers, faith leaders and other key stakeholders to strengthen and coordinate the community’s response to domestic violence.

Overview
In 2021 when COVID made it almost impossible for survivors to safely leave domestic violence situations, the PVPC brought together 26 rural towns with the town of Ware as the lead to secure funding and help launch the first in the nation helpline for people who abuse but want to change and learn to be safe. A Call for Change Helpline was launched in collaboration with the Southern Hilltown Domestic Violence Task Force, the Ware River Valley Domestic Violence Task Forces, Behavioral Health Network, and Growing A New Heart Inc. Today, the Helpline serves all towns across the State.
In 2024, the PVPC secured funding to launch the Rural Network to End Domestic Violence. The Network, coordinated by the PVPC and a consultant, connects six rural domestic violence task forces across Western and North Central MA in order to strengthen and support these once isolated efforts, work on regional projects, and provide a voice for rural communities statewide.
For those who need immediate assistance with regard to domestic violence, please contact SAFELINK, our statewide 24/7 domestic violence hotline, or visit Jane Doe Inc’s website, which lists all domestic violence programs state-wide.
