Wales residents, businesses, and surrounding community members are invited to learn about and provide input on the Town’s Hazard Mitigation and Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Plan on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 6 pm at the Wales Town Hall, 3 Hollow Road, Wales MA
The Public Forum will include an overview of the Hazard Mitigation Plan, the risks from natural hazards and climate change impacts in Wales, and previous mitigation actions. The Forum is an opportunity for you to share your opinions and participate in the mitigation planning process. Municipal officials and PVPC staff will be available to answer questions about the project. All members of the public, representatives from surrounding communities and other interested parties are welcome and encouraged to attend.
The purpose of the Hazard Mitigation and Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Plan is to assess Wales’s vulnerabilities from natural hazard and climate change risks, and to identify actions to reduce the risks. A mitigation action is any action that reduces or eliminates the risk to human life and property from natural hazards.
The plan is being updated by the Town with assistance from the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and is funded by the Massachusetts Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA).
Upon completion, the plan will be submitted to EEA and to the Massachusetts and Federal Emergency Management Agencies (MEMA and FEMA) for review and approval. A FEMA approved plan makes the community eligible for federal and state mitigation grant funding, and MVP certification makes the Town eligible to apply for MVP action grants from EEA.
