Toward Greater Resilience in our Drinking Water Supply: A Regional Plan for the Pioneer Valley

Overview

Following two years of analysis, PVPC applied to and was awarded funding from the Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Grant Program to begin developing a regional drinking water plan for the Pioneer Valley.

(1st phase) – initiated winter of 2025

The two-year project includes: interviews with drinking water suppliers on strengths and vulnerabilities with project partners Kestrel Land Trust, other local land trusts, and the Boutt Geology Lab at UMass – Amherst; a series of listening sessions with communities in environmental justice and rural areas with partner community based organizations and Dpict; a series of community of practice roundtables for drinking water suppliers to discuss key technical issues with experts; and completion of three chapters for the regional plan that include actionable strategies.
