PVPC staff worked from 2019-2025 to assist member communities to become designated as Age and Dementia Friendly Communities through AARP and the Massachusetts Councils on Aging. Engagement of older adults and planning for healthy aging continues through our work in local and regional planning. The Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative continues to convene the Age Friendly Pioneer Valley Network to share successes and challenges in the ongoing work of making communities great places to live for people of all ages.

Age & Dementia Friendly Communities in the PVPC Region
Community partners in the Age and Dementia Friendly Pioneer Valley initiative included Agawam, Amherst, Belchertown, East Longmeadow, Hadley, Hatfield, Longmeadow, Ludlow, Monson, Northampton, Palmer, South Hadley, and Ware.
The seven Northern Hilltowns, Springfield, West Springfield, and a few other communities completed assessments and action plans to become Age Friendly as well.
