The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission is spearheading a Regional Outdoor Recreation Asset Inventory, drawing on the guidance and funding from the Massachusetts Office of Outdoor Recreation (MOOR). Aligned with MOOR’s grant objectives, the project aims to “complete regional outdoor recreational inventories, based on the Berkshires Outside model,” while creating accurate site descriptions and images, strengthening collaboration among regional planning agencies and tourism councils, and contributing data to a statewide web platform to promote outdoor recreation.
Overview
This inventory will catalog trails, bike paths, parks, campsites, and more—capturing amenities, accessibility features, and narratives—to support planning, marketing efforts, and enhanced public information throughout the Pioneer Valley.
Once realized, the Pioneer Valley inventory will empower residents and visitors to access reliable, inclusive information about outdoor opportunities, boosting health, tourism, and stewardship across the region.
