The MVP 2.0 planning program expands on the work communities have done to date and supports communities with new methods, tools, and resources for building climate resilience.
Overview
In particular, MVP 2.0 is a way for towns and cities to revisit their community resilience priorities with a focus on equity and translate those priorities into action through the development and implementation of a Seed Project. We have served as the Planning Vendor for four pilot communities from 2023-2025 and served as the project manager for the MVP 2.0 process up through developing a Seed Project Implementation Plan. Our work includes facilitating discussions, coordinating meeting, event and engagement logistics, and overseeing the completion of the various deliverables throughout the process.
Current Communities & their “Seed Projects”
- Belchertown: Establish a Municipal Resilient Housing Trust for making houses more climate resilient and cost effective. The goal is to make pre-existing houses adapted for climate resiliency.
- Charlton: Develop a Town Forest (100 acre lot off Colburn Road). The project will develop a town forest bylaw & Committee focused on forest resilience, retain a forester to develop a forest management plan and incorporate traditional ecological management into the management plan.
- Goshen: Develop a Community Resilience Hub to serve as a place for new programming, new partnerships, skill development, and improved climate infrastructure.
- Chesterfield: Develop a Community Resilience Hub by renovating the Community Center, an existing community space that can serve as an important new resource during weather disasters and strengthen community engagement through climate-related educational programs such as how to improve your home’s climate resilience, protecting wells and septic systems during climate change, and working with local teachers and classes to explore climate resilience.
