Economic Impact of the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission

  • The Donahue Institute at the University of Massachusetts Amherst recently completed an economic impact analysis of the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission. This assessment was designed to determine the economic value PVPC provides to the Pioneer Valley region through our day-to-day activities with our communities and partners.
  • PVPC is primarily funded by the grants and contracts it obtains through its roles serving as the Regional Planning Agency and the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Pioneer Valley.
  • These funds average over $330 million per year and are the basis for the $629 million of economic activity.
  • Most of the jobs created and supported stem from investments in transportation and other development. They are primarily jobs in investment-related sectors like construction, transit, wholesale, and professional services and consumption-related sectors like health care, retail, and restaurants.
