Voluntary Vehicle Recycling Program
Protecting Air and Water Supplies

We’ve effectively prevented 120 tons of carbon from annually contaminating the air that we breathe here in the region.

Tim Brennan, PVPC Executive Director

The Voluntary Vehicle Recycling Program has also recovered more than 20 abandoned or inoperable vehicles, which because of leaking fluids and chipping metals can pollute precious water resources.

The program offers owners of vehicles in operating condition—and manufactured before 1995—up to $500 cash (depending on Kelley Blue Book trade-in value).  For unregistered or disabled vehicles, owners are offered a $50 incentive and free towing to one of PVPC’s collaborating auto salvage yards.  PVPC works with two auto salvage yards where cars are safely recycled for scrap metal.

VEHICLES ELIGIBLE FOR RECYCLING

• Registered cars, vans, and light trucks older than 1995, that can be
driven 100 yards forwards and backwards.

• Registered cars, vans, and light trucks older than 1995, that have failed
the state emissions test.

• Unregistered, non-drivable vehicles owned by an individual.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

(1) Fill out and submit an application form.  Attach a copy of the vehicle’s registration
(or title if unregistered) to prove ownership.

(2) If your vehicle is accepted into the program, you will be contacted by PVPC with
an offer (if applicable).

(3) Once the offer is accepted, PVPC will send a check to a collaborating salvage yard,
along with your contact information.

(4) Once the salvage yard receives the check, they will contact you to schedule a time
to drop off/pick up your vehicle.  You will need to sign over the title and they will
give you the check.
