Smart Growth in Your Community

Click on your community name in the regional map below to begin the smart growth assessment for your community. Each assessment provides data on growth trends, access to your Smart Growth Community Checklist, and the Valley Vision 2 map specific to your community.

The growth trends look at change in land use and population patterns over the past thirty years in your community, and will allow you to evaluate how much land has been developed for residential and commercial uses in comparison to your community’s population growth. A community with significant land use change but little population growth is an indicator of sprawl development.

The Smart Growth Community Checklist is designed to assist your community in implementing Valley Vision Smart Growth Strategies at the local level, and assist your community in implementing the commitments set forth in the Valley Vision Memorandum of Agreement. Strategies highlighted in the checklist were based on strategies highlighted by your community in your Community Development Plan, Master Plan, Open Space and Recreation Plan, and Commonwealth Capital application. PVPC has also made additional recommendations to complement strategies identified in your community plans.

A copy of the Valley Vision 2 regional land use map can be found on this main page; however, if you are interested in looking at your community specific Valley Vision 2 map, you can find a copy at your community page. This map will show you areas appropriate for open space protection and higher density development, and specifically, areas that could be eligible for Chapter 40R, Smart Growth Districts.
