Stormwater management Funds Available for Holland Residential Properties

Holland residents may now apply for funds under the Stormwater Assistance Fund, a small grants program that offers a cost share for homeowners to create stormwater management systems and restore eroded areas on residential properties within the watershed to Hamilton Reservoir in the Town of Holland. Grant awards will be made up to 75 percent of a project cost or no more than $1,000.

Stormwater Assistance Fund grants will be awarded to projects that meet certain criteria and performance standards. Applications for Stormwater Assistance Funds will be prioritized based on three criteria: 1) the extent to which the proposed project addresses the performance standards for stormwater management, 2) the type of problem and degree of severity that the proposed project seeks to address, and 3) the amount of funding available.

A complete program description, including submission requirements, is available at the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission’s website, www.pvpc.org, and at Holland Town Hall. Applications are due Monday, June 30, 2 p.m. to Anne Capra, Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, 26 Central Street, West Springfield, MA  01089.

A public information session will be held at the Holland Elementary School on Saturday, May 31, 10:30 a.m. The session will include a presentation about systems for stormwater management on residential properties followed by the opportunity to ask questions about individual sites and what might be appropriate for them.

This project is being funded by a Section 319 Grant from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection to the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission. In addition to the residential outreach program, the Section 319 Grant also includes funding for the design and construction of stormwater management systems at four town-owned locations in the Hamilton Reservoir watershed in Holland: Mashapaug Road and Steven’s Brook, Mashapaug Road and Brandon Street, and two locations on May Brook Road.
